  1. Aloha kakou,
I felt the San Francisco gathering, noontime at the plaza in front of City Hall, was thoughtful and warm. I felt a sense of emerging community, which incorporated and yet transcended the normal halau network here in the Bay Area, and I do hope that we can come together as activists, as well as haumana hula and kumu!

As the woman who spoke about wanting to activate the "lefties" and "progressives" in the Bay Area, I feel very strongly that it would be great for us to look for ways to "seed" the important Hawaiian issues in other movements. For example, ANSWER.org always talks about the occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. -- but never a mention of Hawai'i.

I know not everyone is as politically radical as I can be, and that there is a wide range of mana'o on the issue of what is desirable and pono for na kanaka maoli and descendents of Hawaiian nationals, but it would still be great to have dialogue and planning in how to educate and activate all our separate networks. Real grassroots community organizing, in other words!

Mahalo for the gathering. I was impressed by the spirit and intention of the organizers, as well as the people who came!
